May 11, 2009
yesterday grant and i celebrated our first anniversary. we shared
it with mother's day. the two holidays meshed into one big happy
day. we made a pan of monster bars and whipped out the wedding
dvd. it was sweet and subtle. and so awesome to be together.
i am amazed. this picture was taken right after we walked down
the aisle as husband and wife. our very first hug. for me that hug
is almost more unforgettable than our first kiss. we said more
with our hug in the sunlit lobby by ourselves than with a kiss in
front of everyone. the hug meant, yes. we did it! i love you! nothing
else matters! we're going to be together forever! but without any
words escaping our lips. i am amazed because it feels like we've
been married for 10 years, but it feels like the wedding was just 2
weeks ago. i can't imagine my life without grant, but i can't imagine
having lived apart from my family for a whole year. marriage is
extraordinary like that. it seems like i'm the same girl i was last
may, but decidedly different.
because of this boy that i met a few years ago at camp.. i am a
wife. he belongs to me. i belong to him. i know what it means
to live life as a mere one half. i need him. we are one. i have
experienced husband and wifery. i know all of the joys. because
of this boy.. i carry a minnesota drivers' license, i have my own
household to take care of, and i have plenty of bathroom drawer
space. i listen to joss stone and andy mckee and jesse mccartney.
i pray more. i understand the rules of basketball and know about
the vikings' picks in the nfl draft. i own a mac & was introduced to
a toothbrush with extra soft bristles. i appreciate michael jackson
and his invincible album more than ever. i made apple crisp once.
i enjoy thrifting more. i make sure the monster bars are gooey.
i go to chipotle. i feel comfortable without makeup. i watch 24.
i have a tiny blue ipod shuffle and keep a list of movies to see.
i found the work of c.h. spurgeon. i complain less. i laugh more.
i moved away from home. i have a new routine. i have 6 brothers,
6 new sisters, and 11 nieces and nephews. i am in the hub club.
i always have a good example to follow. i am not as scared to go
to sleep after watching something creepy. i have seen every x-men
movie and all 3 seasons of arrested development. i always have a
shopping buddy. i have realized the value of chips + salsa. i write
more letters. i take more pictures. i think about the future. i found
out that raisin bran isn't so bad. i know the niceties of having a
teacher's schedule. i straighten my hair less. i wear it wavy more.
i have a direct link to the camp shetek scene. i went cold-turkey
on my target shopping for awhile. i watch the first two minutes of
scrubs almost every night. i traveled outside north america. i have
someone to wait for. someone to finish off my french fries and kill
the spiders in our house. someone to kiss goodnight. someone to
sacrifice for and defer to. someone to tell my secrets to. someone
to help me dream up our dream house. someone to respect.
someone to love and keep to myself for forever.
because of this boy, i am a changed girl.
grant, this has been the happiest year.
i love you madly.
ps. happy birthday to my amazing mom. i love, love, love her.
hope you are having one spectacular day, mom!

It's amazing how much one person can change your routine, your perspective, your entire life. Congratulations on your first anniversary.

Do you, by the way, ever have a hard time remembering what it was like before you were married like I do? It's like I don't know the person I used to be.

Love this! I can relate to much of what you said. I read this and just had to call the hubby to tell him how much I love him.

I think it's cool how much marriage changes you--I think I've changed a lot, for the better. I know I've grown up a lot. And I really can't imagine life without my boy.. he is seriously my other half. That's not to say I'm not independent--I just love him so much, I want him around all the time! I'm sure you feel the same about Grant. Congrats on your anniversity; 1 year down, many more to go.

about this blog

Hello, I'm Summer. A people-loving introvert whose hope and life is in Jesus. His promises are my passion and my ministry is homelife. This blog is a place for me to write about everyday things. Especially food. My favorite thing to do is sit around a table, lingering over a long meal with good conversation. I live with my husband and our 2 littles. We like blizzards, thrifting, grammar, guacamole, cheerful hearts, nice manners, good movies, and making simple, real, nutrient-dense food.
