secret revealing time, everybody. so excited to tell you. i have been waiting and waiting.

grant and i are moving! as in, we bought a house. yes! our very first house. a real house with a backyard and a water softener and an upstairs and a hardwood floor. oh, guys.. the floor. dreams do come true. i can't even believe it. it came completely out of the blue and all of a sudden and practically landed on our doorstep. or, rather, we landed on its doorstep. want to hear the story? it's pretty magical, if i'm honest.
let's rewind to this day. that day, i said that i got a special note in my door and indeed, it was very special. it brought the news that our landlady would be moving come november and we needed to be out of our little apartment-house right quick. we had roughly 30 days to figure out a new place to live. and here is how the search days went down. we'll call them, the wonder days. for they were very wondrous.
tuesday.. we got the note with the big news.
wednesday.. we looked at a house.
thursday.. we looked at house no.2. and got pre-approved for a loan.
friday.. we looked at house no.2 again and decided that it was the house. our house.
saturday.. we made an offer.
sunday- wednesday.. we negotiated.
thursday.. the seller accepted our offer. we signed a purchase agreement.
and that, plus a whole lot of prayer, is how two young, not-rich, apartment-renting people who were not looking for a house in the first place found a perfect little house in our lovely little town in the course of essentially one week. and do you know, the whole time we felt completely at peace with everything. it was, i admit, a whirlwind. but we were not panicking and we did not disagree or doubt. it was a miracle. we felt like we hardly had to do any work at all, and yet we were making one of the biggest decisions of our life. and there is a big bonus..
a. the housing market is totally in our favor these days and
b. we bought just in time to still cash in on the tax credit for first time home buyers. woohoo.
all i can say is that God is good. and i have a cute little 1940's house to prove it. i am beside myself with excitement and thankfulness.
you know what makes this whole experience even sweeter is that it was entirely secret. we kept everything (even the initial note) hush-hush until the deed was done. so don't feel left out. nobody else knew a thing either. i didn't know that secrets could be so much fun. i loved having the biggest thing in my life go completely undetected by everyone for awhile. i was busy, but no one knew why.. so cool. and i really loved that grant was the only one that i could talk to about it. we shared this huge business, just the two of us. we felt a little devious and scheming, which was terribly fun. every time we called each other or sat down to eat dinner we would end up giggling like schoolgirls and saying, 'no one even has any idea!' and they didn't.
so, we are homeowners soon enough. we will have a mortgage and home owners' insurance and will have to get our own cable + internet and all of that real life stuff. how exciting. i still feel like a little girl most days, but this is going to make me awfully close to being a grown-up. i will be keeping you up to speed on all the moving adventures, of course. and there will be pictures, too. more soon!
on top of the world and burying my head in the pottery barn catalogue,
summer
ps. did you think this post would be about prenatal vitamins and due dates and the like? i fooled you! we will have to save that for someday.

That's amazingly exciting - and weirdly echoes something I was talking about with a friend today - God's timing/provision all working together to sort houses out. Very encouraging!

about this blog

Hello, I'm Summer. A people-loving introvert whose hope and life is in Jesus. His promises are my passion and my ministry is homelife. This blog is a place for me to write about everyday things. Especially food. My favorite thing to do is sit around a table, lingering over a long meal with good conversation. I live with my husband and our 2 littles. We like blizzards, thrifting, grammar, guacamole, cheerful hearts, nice manners, good movies, and making simple, real, nutrient-dense food.
