but i put a few things on my christmas list this weekend. whoa. we don't even have our halloween candy yet! i'm so weird. you would laugh if you knew what i wrote down.

...ok, i'll just tell you.

it was a pilates dvd, and mat, and ball. and a gift certificate for trader joe's or whole foods. and good socks and slippers. (i like to wish for practical things.) these slippers are pretty cute. but moccasins might be nice, too.

so what do you guys know/think about pilates? i'm super interested. i've heard it's an amazing workout, and i just found out that it was developed by a gymnast during world war I as a way to rehab soldiers. sounds intense. and awesome!! i could use some more strength in my body. have you tried it? i really want to, but there aren't any classes offered in my town.. hence the dvd on my list. i'd love to hear your thoughts.. and hopefully some raves.

well, i've got some granola bars to make for my guy. and white t-shirts to fold. and other fun things. happy monday to you!

Pilates totally works if you stick with it! I have one that targets specific areas, (like for after having a baby!!!), and you definitely feel those muscles being worked - you even work up a sweat! Unfortunately what I really need is some cardio to really seal the deal. But yes, pilates will give you an intense work out!

I know it's rude to contradict, but no, it's not silly! I already have three of the eight Christmas gifts I'm making to give finished and tucked away in hiding, and I have my Christmas lists on Amazon and Etsy all made up. : ) I too like to wish for practical gifts--the ones you can use everyday are the best!

Pilates is actually my all-time favorite exercise. It really works to strengthen your upper body and core! Strengthening your core is one of the best things you can do to make yourself feel good and strong (it supports and protects your whole body!). I love it- I say dive in and get ready to feel good :)

pilates really is a great workout!

also: summer, i've been following your blog for so long now -- since it was source of winsome -- and one thing i love is that you have as much christmas cheer as i do! i already have a christmas list, too, and already dusted off the christmas decorations, planning where i'll be putting everything in our new apartment. it really is the most wonderful time of year! :)

I credit pilates (all on DVD), with my quick, better than 100% recovery after having Ritter. Very tough, but completely worth it. :)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE pilates. It's a fantastic work out and when I'm done I feel very long and elegant like a ballerina. (Without the coordination or talent!) It's so relaxing also. I can't rave enough about it. You'll love it.

And I don't think it's weird that you have started making your Christmas list. I've been planning gifts in my head for quite some time. I think it's great!

I did pilates last year in college. It was SO much fun. I must admit though, I was dying the first several weeks... and could not move for days after each class. BUT, it was the GOOD kind of sore. You know... the one where you feel like you DEFINITELY got a good work-out in!

I loved the one class I took...

I was expecting it to be like yoga but wow, it was such a workout!

I've been wanting to get a DVD to do it at home. Which is on your list?

Pilates rocks! I used it originally to get back into shape after having my babies. It has also been great for a no impact workout that really tightens your core muscles. I like the Netflix idea to test out a few DVDs since they are not all equal. Let us know what you think!

I just made the granola bars and we (my husband and myself) LOVE them. I have made many granola bars, but none that you do not bake. I will be making these again and again, while changing it up a for variety. :) Thanks, Summer.

Sabrina and I did a Pilates class and it kicked my boo-Tay! I need to get into it again. I'm typing this while I'm watching Straight No Chaser on TV. Just wanted to let you know :o)

i'm a huge fan of pilates.. i took a class in college and loved it. it's a great workout and you can really feel the rewards in your muscles afterwards.

'pilates for dummies' dvd is actually a great start for beginners to intermediate. the instructor is quite detailed in her descriptions.. i can still hear her voice in my mind. see if it's at your local library!

My mum and I use this DVD: http://www.amazon.com/10-Minute-Solution-Pilates-Perfect/dp/B001AYWY7C/ref=pd_bxgy_d_img_b

It's great, but it really helped that my mum had done pilates classes before, cause the video didn't explain how you should pull the stomach muscles back towards the spine to feel the full effect etc...

Still, coupled with a little running, it gives you an *amazing* silhouette! :)

I love pilates! LOVE them! It takes a while to see results, but you feel it instantly! It's also not hard core cardio so you don't get breathless through it, but you will break a sweat!
I've got new house-slippers on my Christmas list too!

speaking of socks, you should request SmartWool sock from Santa Claus.

They are amazingly warm and cozy.

I love pilates! I took a class a few years ago while I was at uni and ever since I stopped I have been missing it. I loved that I would often turn up to the class having rushed there from a lecture, or from work, and would leave feeling so relaxed but like my body had really had a good workout. It's amazing the way pilates gets you to automatically change your posture, just by training your core muscles to actually work - I highly recommend it!
And on that note, I'm going to look for a new pilates class...

Pilates is awesome... but you should really try kettlebells! They provide cardio and strength all in one workout. I have been taking classes for a year now and still completely love it!
