samoas
my gift to grant for valentine's was a homemade version of his favorite girl scout cookie- the samoa. mmm.. these were better than any blondie i've ever had. the browned butter and coconut and melty chocolate chips made a pretty outrageous combo. i couldn't tear myself away from the little bits that kept breaking off while i was using my cookie cutter on them. do you ever feel like the little bits are the best part? yeah, me too.

Samoa Blondies
from the lovely honey & jam.. thank you, hannah!

10 T. butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup sugar
1 large egg
2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/4 cup flour
1 1/4 cup sweetened flaked coconut
1 1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips

preheat oven to 350. in a pan over high heat, heat the butter until it browns and smells nutty- stirring constantly and keeping a close eye so it doesn't burn. let the butter cool for a few minutes, until barely warm. in a large bowl, mix together sugars and browned butter. with a wooden spoon, mix in the egg, vanilla, and salt. slowly mix in flour, coconut, and chocolate chips until blended. put batter in a greased 8x8 baking dish and bake for 25-30 minutes-- do not overbake! the center should still be soft. let cool before slicing into squares, or cutting into hearts for your samoa-loving sweetheart.

The-Kings-Speech
the other highlight of valentine's was going out on saturday night. grant took me on a little date that included: thrifting (have i told you how much i love that grant enjoys doing this with me?), trying a new pizza place (yes, we've had a lot of pizza lately. but they had henry weinhard's there, guys. it was perf.), and we happened to get one of the last seats in the theatre for the king's speech. wow. we are so glad we agreed to sit in the second row and crane our necks for this one (actually our seats reclined, so it wasn't bad at all). we loved it! totally my kind of movie. depsite how much i loved toy story 3, i think this one gets my vote for best picture. have you seen it yet? wasn't it fantastic?

That movie was fan-freakin-tastic! It pulled at my speech-therapist heart strings which doesn't happen very often.
