Well. Guys, as of last night, we no longer have cable. (!!!!)

We've been thinking about doing this for such a long time, and now it's finally done. Exciting! We really only watch a handful of shows, and they are on the internet somewhere, so it's going to be nice. Can't wait to not pay for that every month. We also have Amazon Prime instant streaming and an appleTV, which we really love. Honestly I think the thing I might miss the most is being able to turn on Special Report with Bret Baier. I really like news.

What is your tv situation like these days? Do you have Netflix or Hulu? I'd love to hear what you guys like!

ps. If you guys ordered the 50 Promises card collection on Friday or over the weekend, they'll be shipping out this afternoon!

We haven't had cable since we've gotten married. So when I'm at my sister's house, I secretly get excited to watch HGTV! But other than that, it's okay. We do the Netflix thing, but we don't really watch TV that's currently showing. The Voice and Downton Abbey are the exceptions. (Well, besides we watch Wheel of Fortune every night, but that's mostly for Phinehas's sake cause you know it's the best way for an 9-month-old to learn his letters!)

Exciting!!!! We have the super duper basic cable($20ish a month) and I'd gladly go without even that. We have Hulu+, too, and between that and shows online, I almost always wind up watching my favorites another time anyway. Same with kids' shows - we only have PBS on the tv for kids shows, so most of what they see is usually a movie or on the ipad anyway. My husband just doesn't want to let go of his mindless evening tv-watching, though, so the basic is still here;)

Oh, yay! I know that you'll love it! I never miss cable as there's always soooo many other fun things to do instead. My husband and I downloaded the New York Times Crossword Puzzle app for my iPhone and have been doing those in the evening. We'll make big mugs of tea, lights some candles, and snuggle in with blankets and the phone. It's the loveliest winter evening ritual.

Hope you enjoy the payment free months and your new life without cable! We've been 7 years without cable. We did netflix for maybe a year, but we live so close to our local library and you can get movies there and request series, so when I want to watch something it is there for free. And we use our antenna to get all of the basic channels. I will say that when I dog sit though I love browsing the somewhat infinite options on tv, but often find myself overwhelmed by the selections.

We use an Apple TV and AirPlay or Mirror the iMac when we want to watch something that isn't on Netflix. BBC and iTV have really convenient iPad apps that make it easy to AirPlay. I have often told people with Apple products that the Apple TV is the best kept secret to how handy and versatile it is.

We have never had cable and I love it! You can get a lot of stuff on Hulu, channel websites and we do Amazon Prime. I have no regrets about not having it.

No cable here either and we have found it so freeing! We have Netflix and watch online or through the Wii. We did buy a HD antenna for $50 at Best Buy so we could get the basic channels. Goes behind the tv so you don't ever see it. Going sans cable has made a huge impact on the budget and easier to shield my 11 & 14yo from tv filth.

We've never had cable the whole time we've been married...almost 10 years! We're fine with regular old tv stations and we have Netflix. We're more than happy with this set up!
Good for you guys!

We are also now without cable almost a year! We did buy the HD antenna as a previous commenter mentioned. Ours is in the attic and we are able to get local stations including PBS. This is unlike the old style antennas - the picture is fantastic, and in some cases we even get the HD station! Well worth the trip to Best Buy.

I really enjoyed not having cable for a few years. Didn't really miss it at all (except for maybe some HGTV). But when we moved to Texas, we of course *had* to get DirectTV/NFL Sunday Ticket so we could still watch the Vikings games! It was nice for awhile to have those cable shows back but I wish we could jut get the games and not pay for cable too.

We haven't had cable for years. We have netflix instant and hulu plus (because we can't watch on the computer-the speakers no longer work. we have a blu-ray player that streams netflix and watch hulu through the wii). Between the two, we can watch most of our favorite shows and a bunch of movies. We also occasionally rent movies from redbox (usually when we get free codes through their text program). We miss Top Chef and the CBS shows, but it's worth the savings. :-) Also, we are considering adding Amazon Prime this year to catch a few newer shows and for the other benefits.

We haven't had cable since we got married, and I totally don't mind... except when there is a big TV only event, like the grammys, oscars, etc. Then it's a bummer, because no one streams those online for free yet...

Honestly though, I think you'll love it!

Happy to stumble upon you thanks to Whitney Newby's mention of your 50 Promises Cards! <3

No cable here either. Sometimes I wish I had it, so I could watch certain shows as they air, plus I love Food Network & Travel channel. However, I can live without them, I just miss them every now and then. I get that longing to be able to watch them and a sad song plays in the background. :P

Like others I usually watch my shows online, since a large majority of channels show full episodes on their websites or on an app. I also have Netflix but that's mostly for watching movies and TV shows that I hadn't watched in awhile or new shows I want to check out.

I haven't had cable in my entire life. I grew up without it & when I got married, we never got it either. I've never missed it, as a kid or an adult. We got Netflix 2 years ago & we like that - no commercials & we can pick & choose what we want to see. Congrats on getting rid of cable!

I wish we could cut back on our cable package! We get sucked in because of the sports we watch :(

We've been without cable for a year now! It's been great (the "free" time and the lack of bill.) Of course, we've kept the internet though-- I will never give that up :) I like the idea of "purposeful" show/movie watching. I spent so much time just grazing on the tv hardly even enjoying what I was watching! Hulu and Netflix catch me up on all the things I just HAVE to see :) Enjoy it!

I've been wanting to do this! We rarely watch our cable & it seems like anything we do want to watch we can often find on the Internet. I'm impressed - good job. You'll have to let us know how it goes.

We decided to try no cable when we got married 8 years ago and we're still going strong. We have Netflix streaming with 1 DVD and I've always loved it. We just recently upgraded our old tv so we could get Apple tv and we are so loving that! We tried Amazon Prime, but I didn't think it was better than Netflix, so we canceled it before our trial ended. We've been thinking about Hulu Plus for newer shows, but we're disappointed we still have to watch commercials despite paying. We buy Mad Men through iTunes and I can't wait to be able to watch it on our tv through Apple tv this season. Best of luck!

Especially food. My favorite thing to do is sit around a table, lingering over a long meal with good conversation. I live with my husband and our 2 littles.
