I can't seem to get my taste buds into the right season of late. This, in the words of Grant, is "the month of anticipation!" I should be dreaming of wassail, pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, peanut butter balls, egg nog, and Grandma's spritz cookies. But am I? No, of course not. Lately I've been craving two very summery things: 1. fresh, sugared strawberries and 2. a tall glass of
that's right. Iced tea. And not just iced tea, but sweet tea. Mmm... liquid candy.
I dare say that this problem could have been prevented had I not made the foolish vow to NOT listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. Surely I (and my taste buds) would be appropriately in the holiday spirit if I were filling my head with the sounds of Nat King Cole and Bing Crosby crooning their sweet, familiar melodies. Until I can listen to them with a clear conscience, I suppose the mellow tunes of Norah Jones will have to sustain me. I'm sure the Christmasy cravings will come soon.
p.s. happily, if any of you made a promise similar to mine, there's only 9 days left of this deprivation! also, there's help: "painter song" by norah has been a wonderful christmas music-substitute

I get the best of both worlds! (in 9 days) This year we will be going down to southwest Kansas to spend Thanksgiving with Shawn's extended family...and Grandmas sweet tea is a staple. It is delicious...and no matter how hard we try, no one can make it like Grandma!(I think it's because she puts a ridiculous amount of sugar in her tea, and no one besides Grandma is daring enough to put that much in!)

I saw that last night on a food show. They were North Carolina serving Sweet Tea in jars just like that. I have never tried it before.

Have fun. I will eat the extra pumpkin pie for you :)

Sweet tea out of a mason jar...you're making me forget all the holiday drinks I was so excited for at Starbucks. Bring back summer!

ps. If you like sugar bombs, try the salted caramel hot chocolate at Starbucks. I think I have diabetes now, but it was worth it!

Mmmm...strawberries and iced tea. Shameless!

I know my fella is dreading the onset of Christmas tunes, but I can't wait!

p.s. I have always loved your name, and I don't think I've ever told you how much I love it, so I will just tell you now!

I heard a Christmas tune on the car radio this morning and realized I had almost completely forgotten that it is nearing the Holiday season! I have a feeling you will be in full on holiday mode in a one short week!

Hello, I'm Summer. A people-loving introvert whose hope and life is in Jesus. His promises are my passion and my ministry is homelife. This blog is a place for me to write about everyday things. Especially food. My favorite thing to do is sit around a table, lingering over a long meal with good conversation. I live with my husband and our 2 littles. We like blizzards, thrifting, grammar, guacamole, cheerful hearts, nice manners, good movies, and making simple, real, nutrient-dense food.
