i have finally mastered the perfectly-yellow-yolked hardboiled egg. no greenish grayish gunk around the edges. want to know how i did it? i will happily share my secret, which is actually no secret at all. i found the recipe nestled in the corner of a magazine article two years ago. it was there for everyone to see, 'easy eggs,' but i wonder how many people ripped it out and tucked it away like i did. eggs are very important to me.
okay, here it is.
01. place eggs in a single layer in a saucepan and cover them with about 1 inch of cold water.
02. bring the water to a boil, cover tightly, and remove from heat; let stand about 20 minutes.
03. transfer eggs to a bowl of ice water and let stand until completely cooled.
there's really no trick to it at all, you just have to be precise.
let's conquer that hateful ring. good luck to you all.
ps. chelsea, thank you for sharing your grandma's delicious sour cream tip for my deviled eggs. they were tops.

Thank you for sharing your secret with us! Will file this one away for sure.
It seems like every time I do it differently and can never remember which way turns out the best. So thanks for the tip. I will never have to guess again. The deviled eggs were really good. I wish I had one right now!
yes I am proud of you! They look perfect! I, like Judy, have made them so many different ways, I forget which is the best! I will always check back on your blog and remember now! Glad they were a hit last night..along with the Vikings!
my process is slightly different, but i have at last mastered it after years and years of icky-looking yolks! ;-)
You have no idea how much I needed this instruction! Thank you!
Beautiful eggs. I'm so excited they turned out well.
AH! I just tried that last night and they did not turn out super amazing. Thanks for the helpful hints~!
Hi Summer,
My daughter Erica said last night that she heard Summer Harms had a blog. So she googled you and there you are. I met you once at Camp Shetek in a staff bathroom two or three summers when my husband, Keith Vik, was camp pastor for the week. I love your blog pictures. You have a nice way of capturing images on a camera. We enjoyed looking around. I have a blog and Erica helps a bit with that.
Well, I'll be. I had never heard that before! Thanks for sharing, Summer!
Get out of here! I had no idea there was any way to rid myself of the weird color in my hard boiled eggs! I can't wait to try it!
Sounds too good to be true, you rock for sharing all your great tips with us! (and I'm glad one of mine worked for you)
