skilletspaghetti

question: don't you love when dinner comes together in a single pan? doesn't it make everything seem simpler and more do-able? this is why i love skillet meals. and why i love my cast iron pan. everything tastes better in a cast iron. and did you know that food cooked in cast iron, especially acidic foods like tomato sauce, has up to 20x as much iron than it would cooked elsewhere? nice.

so i saw eat, pray, love a couple weekends ago, and have a new-found love for spaghetti and pizza. the italy part just drove me nuts. movies always start food cravings in me. do you deal with that, too? i remember watching charlotte's web as a little girl, and every time, i knew i'd see their stacks of pancakes, with a square of butter on top... dripping with syrup... and i almost couldn't bear it.

anyway, today you can hop over to find a super easy recipe i posted for skillet spaghetti with andouille and spinach on the smithfield blog. mmm. spaghetti.

ps. please tell me which movie scenes make your mouth water in the comment box. i'd love to hear.

----wow! you guys have such great movie-food memories, too! i love it!

Oh yum. You've Got Mail. :) The scene where Kathleen is talking to Birdie in the sandwich shop and she is eating the chicken salad out of the sandwich with a fork. I try to recreate that scene every time I get a chicken salad sandwich. ;)

I happen to have all these ingredients sitting in my fridge and pantry waiting to be turned into something delicious. You have inspired me! ps. I love your photos.

Julie and Julia...so much food in this movie...but the best is the crazy tomato-topped bruschetta that Julie makes in a skillet. Yummmm! Someone else agreed with me her...http://www.delish.com/cooking-shows/food-tv/julie-julia-movie-recipes

This looks so yummy! Cast iron is awesome - I love using it and knowing it is so much better for us than T-Fal and the like. And I totally know what you mean about movie-induced cravings - the one that always gets me is in "Little Women" when Jo is eating the orange/clementine as she's writing. Instant citrus craving. :-)

It's fantastical and a little silly, but I love the scene in Hook when the Lost Boys eat their imaginary meal.

This looks YUM-MY!
One question.. how do you clean your cast iron skillet? I got one for Christmas and I'm afraid to use it because I don't want to ruin it :( lol

Mine is from a book (& maybe movies, too- possibly even 10 things I hate about you): I've always gotten giddy about eating an apple whole while sitting in a bay window with the sun streaming into the room. I'm not a huge fan of store bought apples & really only like ones picked at the farm so it's definitely a fall craving, as well. I think the book is American girls collection with Molly as the main character.

Oh man, Eat Pray Love is going to be the death of me. Those scenes of her eating in Italy are out of control! I think I love any movie that shows people REALLY enjoying good food.I watch Eat Pray Love over and over and over again. I can say that my pizza consumption has gone up since that movie came out!

Hello, I'm Summer. A people-loving introvert whose hope and life is in Jesus. His promises are my passion and my ministry is homelife. This blog is a place for me to write about everyday things. Especially food. My favorite thing to do is sit around a table, lingering over a long meal with good conversation. I live with my husband and our 2 littles. We like blizzards, thrifting, grammar, guacamole, cheerful hearts, nice manners, good movies, and making simple, real, nutrient-dense food.
