This summer I've been reading Anne of Green Gables. How have I not read Anne of Green Gables until this summer?!! Growing up, it was my favorite thing to borrow from the library-- in VHS form, that is. I remember trying to read the books long ago, and not being very into it. Well. If that was you, too, I say try, try again. It's so loveable. (and it's free in iBooks!)
Back in June, my sister-in-law told me she was starting it and since then we've both been plowing through the series. It's kind of been our thing all summer. This was us everyday at camp:
"What are you going to do this afternoon?" (during nap time)
"Probably read Anne until I fall asleep."
"Yeah. Me too."
I can't wait to read it again with Hadley someday. The way Lucy Maud writes is wonderful, she is so clever with characters. You better watch out because half the time I feel like quoting Anne all over this blog...

I absolutely love the "Anne" series. I was obsessed with the movies...yes, you need to watch them...and my grandparents took me to Prince Edward Island to see her house when I was little.

That's an interesting cover - where did you find it? The girl really doesn't look like Anne at all! Her hairstyle and clothes both look too modern. :)
BUT the Anne series is so great that it doesn't matter a bit what the cover looks like! I've read through the entire series at least twice, some books more than that. Numbers 2,3,4 and 8 are my favorites. :)
I read Anne in high school and remember purchasing every book in the series and also the VHS movies :)I will always think of the series whenever I think of PEI, Queen Anne's Lace and plum pudding!
I LOVE the Anne series. After you read them all - you should track down the movies. They are superb. My best friend and I re-read them together all the time. We would meet at each others house and sit outside and read the books together and talk.... our own little book club. I am going to have to read it again - it has been too long.

Oh, it sounded familiar, but I could not figure out where I had heard of it (probably because of the translation). Then I remembered: I used to watch the animated movie series of Anne of Green Gables and I loved it! I had no idea it came from a book and now I really want to read the series! The world is such a small place: we live in two different continents and we have such unexpected things in common, I love it!
I read them all this year. So marvelous.
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Anne Shirley!!! My sisters and I love those movies - the version that was on PBS? SO AWESOME! About a year ago I started listening to the audio of the books online somewhere in the afternoon quiet and it was so nice to turn on while I went about my business:)
LOVED the book series when I was in high school...and had the movies about memorized!! My bff and I would constantly quote lines to each other and act just like Anne and Dianna. Then, I reread the first book about a year ago...I was amazed how much I gleaned from Marilla~ as a MOM now. Very much a classic that should be reread over and over and over...

Love Anne! You should also read Magic for Marigold and The Blue Castle. They are L.M. Montgomery faves of mine and sadly always missed. I think they are actually both out of print, but you can buy them used on Amazon for pennies and at least The Blue Castle has a kindle addition.
if you did not read these when you were younger, then what did your daydreams consist of?! i was fortunate to have a grandmother who loved to buy me books! so i had the whole series + others by L.M. Montgomery that i loved!
I was the opposite! I read the books almost every year growing up, but hadn't seen the movies until last year. They are wonderful stories! When you are done I would recommend reading "The Road to Yesterday". Anne and her family have a part in it, but it mainly tells the stories of her neighbors. I love it because even when the series is over, there are still ways to go back!

how is it possible that the very series that you are reading is the SAME one that I picked up this weekend to read on our road trip?! I dug around my parents' bookcases downstairs and stumbled upon Anne of Green Gables. I'm about 100 pages in (I have never read it before) and I already want to quote so many of the lines that Lucy writes. She was an amazing writer and I can't wait to read the rest.
Fun Fact: My dad's parents had the AoGG movies at their house on VHS and we used to watch them every single time that we went over there. Sometimes twice a day. We (me and my sister and my girl cousins) loved the movie and loved Gilbert especially.
I didn't read these books until I was an adult. Then I read them to my daughters a few years ago. Looks like I should start them again. What a wonderful writer that LM Montgomery.
