April 3, 2013

Be prepared- this post is loaded. New nail color, new month, new pickle batch, new prints in the shop. Everything's new!

Ahhhhh. April! I never pay much attention to the few days of spring in March. It's April that always flips the switch inside me. Time for things to start afresh. Now a new season will begin. As Grant said to me over the weekend, "it's straight on till morning." We made it! Winter is over, the sun came out, and the snow is (mostly) gone from our yard. Grant went back to school this week to get cracking on the last 38 days of the school year. So exciting! Can you feel it? It's the 4th Quarter! April is in the air.

And I'm ready for it.
Nails painted. Hair cut. Library books read and returned. Getting back in the saddle and practicing piano again. Swimming suit purchased. Stroller out. John Mayer album broken in again. Legs shaved and detached from leggings. New batch of spring pickles made. Gmail inbox cleared. And shop stocked. I emptied a few shelves of my shop to make room for some new items I've been working on over the winter. It's time to give them a debut! If you have a second, please go check them out!

Item #1 The Ladies of Literature Quote Collection  Anne of Green Gables - Amy March - Laura Ingalls Wilder - Elizabeth Bennet

A few fine words from my favorite leading ladies. This collection is comprised of 5 cheeky and insightful prints. Perfect for a gift to a sister or mom who read these remarkable characters with you. Available as a set or separately, in a 5x7 or 8x10.

Item #2 On The Up & Up 8x10

Meaning 1: If you are on the up and up, you are making progress and doing well. Yay!
Meaning 2: If someone or something is on the up and up, they are legit, honest, and respectable. Yay!
Either way, a really rosy print for spring.

Item #3 Learn To Use Apostrophes 8x10

I'm a grammar girl at heart. This is good advice straight from my parents, who taught us well. Plurals and possessives are not the same thing.

Hope you enjoy the new spring shop items and please drop me a line if you are interested in customizing anything. I'm happy to tweak things to your taste.

February 4, 2013
Hey guys, how was your weekend?
We spent ours working on projects (new laundry area in the basement, new stuff in my shop), cycling through messing and cleaning up the kitchen, staying for the business meeting at church, Sunday dinner with 20 of the Harmses, napping, muffin baking, hair cutting, and Super Bowl watching.

Somewhere in the weekend mix, I also designed and put up a new blog banner for February. I may have to update my headers more often, because I love making them too much. If you have an idea for a new banner for your lovely blog, let's talk! I'm officially designing them now. (Just did some last week and it was so fun!) You can talk to me at summer.harms@gmail.com or select the Blog Banner item in my shop.

In other news, we're moving on to Promise #4 this week. You ready? If you haven't started this little game, you've only missed 3 verses, so jump on in! And the memory cards will go on sale later this week!!

P.S. Today I wrote out the recipe for my basic chicken thighs and carrots to someone who asked for it on formspring. If you need a menu idea come mid-week, this is one of my faves. I like to slide in a pan of sweet potatoes on the side. (peeled and chopped into cubes, drizzled with olive or coconut oil, and sprinkled with salt and minced garlic.)

"There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ. We are today accepted in the Beloved, today absolved from sin, today acquitted at the bar of God. Oh! soul-trasnporting thought! ....
Let present privilege awaken us to present duty, and now, while life lasts, let us spend and be spent for our sweet Lord Jesus."

Grant and I had both bookmarked parts of this devotional from C.H. Spurgeon's Morning & Evening. That last line in particular just stuck in my mind for weeks. What is the meaning of today? Oh, yes! To spend my time, effort, money, thoughts, and words for Jesus. So, am I being used up today? Good! That's the whole point.

Since I loved this quote so much, I designed a new print for our kitchen. We love it.

about this blog

Hello, I'm Summer. A people-loving introvert whose hope and life is in Jesus. His promises are my passion and my ministry is homelife. This blog is a place for me to write about everyday things. Especially food. My favorite thing to do is sit around a table, lingering over a long meal with good conversation. I live with my husband and our 2 littles. We like blizzards, thrifting, grammar, guacamole, cheerful hearts, nice manners, good movies, and making simple, real, nutrient-dense food.

"If Christ be anything, He must be everything."
-C.H. Spurgeon
