2010list2these days everyone's pulling out all the stops for assignment: get back on track|make a turn around. you know, i'm not a stickler about resolutions, i never used to give them a glance, but as i grow up i begin to see the wisdom behind this custom. 'tis the season to self-examine and evaluate what's up; definitely a wise idea. to set your mind on something, to work toward something, that's just smart. in my opinion, being complacent is far more dicey than setting a few far-reaching goals.
so i took inventory. i tried to keep it plain and simple while pinpointing where i was getting lax, and, in true new year's fashion, came up with some healthy/beneficial things to pursue. not so sure these are honest-to-goodness resolutions, as i'm super aware of our tendency to be almost never constant. i'm sure i will not be 'resolute.' my self-control will waver. peaks + slumps. continual change. that's how it goes. and that's where, once again, i figure out that i can't do anything without the Holy Spirit.

Thank you for the reminder. Apart from Him we can do nothing! Have you ever read "Abiding in Christ" by Andrew Murray? Unbelievable gem of a book. Your last sentence reminded me to fish it out. It's a great way to start the new year.

Summer, what a wonderful list.

The one that speaks to me is: Stop Wasting Time. It's so easy for me to fall into that and then later regret not getting done what I set out to do.

I admire your faith in God's ability--sometimes it's easy to think that He just takes care of the bigger things. It's so nice to see that you lean on Him with simpler things like your list.

Thanks for helping me realize Summer!

i am connecting with several of the items on your list! #4 in particular... i am queen of dawdling and daydreaming. i was never much for resolutions either, but this year i've really taken to the idea of putting together a few goals with which to "start fresh". happy monday!

These are all things that I am forever trying to do, but I love your goal to learn and sing more hymns. One day, I want to take home one of the hymnals from the church I grew up in. Those songs just pop into my mind out of nowhere sometimes and I would love to be able to see them and memorize the stanzas I've forgotten.

I love this list Summer! I like to reflect in the New Year and try to make some goals that start me in the right direction. I try to stay away from goals like "I will work out every day" because once you fail you give up. Instead I like to focus on moving in the right direction.

about this blog

Hello, I'm Summer. A people-loving introvert whose hope and life is in Jesus. His promises are my passion and my ministry is homelife. This blog is a place for me to write about everyday things. Especially food. My favorite thing to do is sit around a table, lingering over a long meal with good conversation. I live with my husband and our 2 littles. We like blizzards, thrifting, grammar, guacamole, cheerful hearts, nice manners, good movies, and making simple, real, nutrient-dense food.

"If Christ be anything, He must be everything."
